I've been "in the wild" recently, holding on location sessions with dogs all over Austin as one of the pet photographers in the Tails of the World collective. This project was started a few years ago by Caitlin McColl, an Australian-based pet photographer who wanted to give back to her favorite shelter.
I held nine sessions during the dog days of August and donated my session fees to the Austin Farm Sanctuary. All of the photographers who participated in this project submitted their images for the 2025 edition of Tails of the World, which will be available for purchase on November 1, 2025. The proceeds from the book sales will go to the Geelong Animal Welfare Society in Australia.
Since I am representing Austin in this book, I wanted to showcase the many amazing locations in our beautiful city and held my first session with Porter, a stunning German Shepherd, at Auditorium Shores.
Porter posed perfectly!
Porter was perfect! I couldn't have asked for more from a big guy like him on a hot day in August. Unfortunately, the sky was less than perfect that day, so we shot one image here and moved on to where the light was better in Butler Park. I still wanted to capture all things Austin, so we found one of my favorite plants, the Pride of Barbados and Porter parked it.
Side view!
Hey gorgeous!
Porter's silly side
Time for a closeup!
Porter pondering how he'll be spending his afternoon. Treats? A nap? Belly rubs?
Porter was getting bored in this spot, so we moved on and I noticed another one of my favorite plants, the retama. Earlier in the year, it is covered in beautiful yellow flowers, but on this day it provided a lovely frame around Porter for the next few shots.
Where's my treat?
Stay tuned for our next blog post about this project!
Psst! It's a Sekrit!
