This is the second blog post in a series of on location sessions with dogs all over Austin as part of the Tails of the World book project.
I have photographed Trixie and Luigi several times over the past few years, but this was the first time we've done anything outside, and they did not disappoint! Their mom chose Sekrit Theater for their session, and boy did we have fun!
Who's behind this photo? Mom, of course, holding their little legs so they stay still, while my assistant holds treats from the sideline. That's teamwork!
I love the juxtaposition of these two tiny dogs in the window of this large, antique greenhouse on the property. The greenhouse is stunning both inside and out with many places to photograph your dogs.
We next tucked the dogs just inside of the greenhouse doors and had them sit on a cushion that their mom brought along. Their expressions? They're wondering when they're going to get their treats for posing so nicely.
Just outside of the greenhouse there is a sweet little bench with vines growing around it that framed Trixie and Luigi perfectly.
Such a cute couple!
A short walk from the greenhouse sits an antique clawfoot tub, so of course we had to
take a few shots there!
Have I mentioned the bathtub? Just another Sekrit spot!
When photographing pets, you need to keep them from getting bored. The dogs had had enough of the bathtub, so on to the truck we went. As you can see, Luigi was on board right away. It took Trixie some time (and some treats) to pop her head up fully. You can see her little ears in the second shot. I love this series of images because I can almost imagine what they're saying to each other. It looks as if they're about to take off on a grand adventure. Let's go!
And away they went. Our time had ended at Sekrit Theater but I am so looking forward to seeing Trixie and Luigi again soon.
See ya later, Trixie.
If you're looking for a magical place to hold your next photo session, I highly recommend Sekrit Theater. There are so many fun vignettes that the owners have created there that I wasn't able to showcase in this blog. And, if you're looking for a pet photographer, I'm happy to help you. :-) Jane
Stay tuned for our next blog post about this project!
It just might feature a dog up for adoption. Perhaps your next best friend?
The 2025 edition of Tails of the World will be available for purchase on November 1, 2025. The proceeds from the book sales will go to the Geelong Animal Welfare Society in Australia.
