This is the seventh blog post in a series of on location sessions with dogs all over Austin as part of the Tails of the World book project.
Who's the most endearing Corgi in Austin?
It's Honey!
Aptly name for her beautiful coat color, Honey is one sweet little Corgi pup. I had the pleasure of photographing this endEARing little dog as a wee little one a year ago and was thrilled that she was able to participate in the Tails project. Wonder why I capitalized EAR in endearing?
Yep. Honey's ears do not ALWAYS cooperate with each other, but there are times when they do, which you'll see later. Today they were not in the mood. But, I personally love her unique look. It makes Honey extra special. :-)
For her page in the Tails book, I wanted to show the Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake and have downtown Austin in the background. Since Honey is a lowrider, photographing her on the ground was not ideal. Thankfully there are beautiful benches at various stopping points along the way that complemented Honey's coat and gave her the lift that we needed.
I wanted to shoot wide to show off as much of the skyline as possible.
I got the skyline that I wanted but felt that I lost Honey in the process. Gotta make sure everyone sees that classic Corgi head tilt!
We got Honey to stand on the bench to give her an extra lift, and this is one of the shots submitted for the book. Honey looks deep in thought, but she's actually just looking at her mom who's holding a bag of treats.
I got the shot that I was after, but on our walk back, we stopped and played on some Adirondack chairs.
I love both of the images above but ultimately decided to submit the shot where Honey is looking directly into the camera. What a smiley girl!
Honey is a pro at posing, so we didn't need to spend a lot of time capturing images of her outside.
However, she was just turning one, so we held a studio session to capture all things birthday.
Look at that smile and that sploot!
And, notice anything different about these ears??? It seems that someone can turn them on and off!
Of course there was cake -- and head tilts!
We expected that Honey would not sit still next to her cake, so we leashed her, (removed in post) but that turned out to be unnecessary, because she did not want to go near her cake! We had to stick treats in the cake to entice her. Hilarious!
The treats worked -- perhaps too well! As Honey ate her way around the cake, we could tell that it was going to be difficult taking it away from her.
When you're under two feet tall and someone tries to steal your birthday cake, you tell them how it is!
We had to tell Honey "no," and you could tell she was sorry.
Honey had a birthday party later that day, and I'm sure this girl was showered with presents and probably even had some more cake too. See you again soon, Honey!
Can someone get this icing off my nose?
Stay tuned for our next blog post about this project!
We're headed to Mueller!
